The Kenora U11 Thistles have been chosen as one of 12 regional finalists as a wild card entry in this year’s Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup as announced on Saturday (March 19, 2022) on Hockey Night in Canada.
The Thistles will be vying for the $100,000 first-place prize that will go towards the charity of their choice.
Kenora’s U11 team was selected to represent Ontario based on their work with a local sledge hockey program that has two registered players within the Lake of the Woods Minor Hockey Association.
“We’re hoping that If we do win the $100,000 we can actually work on making our rink completely accessible in improving the boards, improving their equipment, and really making this a great place to everybody to come and play sledge hockey,” said Sarah Minor, Thistles Team Manager.

Now that the Thistles are regional finalists they have already won $2,000 towards the charity of their choice.
Voting began on March 19, 2022, and will run through until April 2, 2022, and ballots can be cast HERE.
The winner will be announced on Hockey Night in Canada on April 16, 2022.
Along with the $100,000 grand prize the Thistles will receive a profile of the team on Hockey Night in Canada, a winners’ ceremony in the team’s hometown, Chevrolet and Hockey Canada branded merchandise, and the team’s name will be engraved on the Good Deeds Cup.
